So I've been feeling a bit ashamed of my utter close-mindedness about religion, especially christians. I cannot help my hatred for this religion, and generally I do not tolerate hearing, seeing or reading about it, and I refuse to associate with devout christians.

However, I'm trying to bring more depth to my thinking and beliefs. So I've made a third "Support Atheism" poster thing. But now instead of simply saying "Fuck religion", it's more like "Be careful about religion".

Plus, a lot of people were more supportive of Agnosticism than Atheism.

"You'd be smart if you'd just think" still sounds pretty much like a "fuck religion" to me, hehe. In any case, I'm not religious at all, but I think I could be more zealous about not being religious if I had had to deal with christians of the american type! I think in most other western countries, everyone is very quiet about their spirituality, which would make any statements like those you do here sound a bit extreme. Maybe in the US context it's different since you apparently are attacked by religious zealots on a weekly basis. But just here in Canada no one will ever talk to you about their religion really. It's just a matter of respecting each others and not going around spewing on others that you're right. I have no problems with christians until they start to babble on TV or some crap like that. Jeez, I'm officially a catholic myself! But everyone in Quebec is, somehow. It's like embedded in culture, even if 80% of us don't give a crap and don't go to church or even think about religion.

Well, I guess I meant to say it's not as harsh as the other ones. And it's not really as bad as I make it seem, I do have to hear and see about the fanatics a lot, yes. The reason I make such a big deal about is 'cos it's basically a pet peeve.

And there is a reason they call the South, "The Bible Belt", everyone's beliefs are forced on everyone else. It's a largely republican thing, and I hate it so much. Here in Alabama it's very bad, but in Georgia just 60-70 miles east it's not -as- bad, go figure.

There's also a reason for the long-ago separation of church and state, and the hicks here in the South try to ignore that and do everything in their power to bring their 'gods' into the government.

"You're free to worship whatever you want, but you have to worship, or get out."

I hate this country, and I fully admit to my shame. It almost feels like a sin. I've been wanting to live in Canada so much lately, I was making a joke about how I could for a USA-anonymous with other ex-US citizens to help each other cope with the trauma of living here.

Ah, you're in Alabama... Well, at least you could start by moving to somewhere else within the country if it gets too bad. I know you're in a relationship now, if you had not I would have proposed hunting down a Canadian partner like my american girlfriend did with me! ;)

We've got some plans in the works. Both of us would very much like to move to Canada though, gawd knows when -that- will happen.

It's just a pain in the arse if you aren't like, marrying, or studying there or have found a miracle job in the other country that nobody except you can fill for some obscure reason. I guess you could come to study in university here, hehe. Even with international fees it's a lot cheaper than studying in the USA, for an education that is at least as good. Especially at the undergraduate level, the quality is maybe even better in a lot of places. At the graduate level it's another story.

I wish more people could see that you don't have to be religious to have morals or to succeed.

I like the second section about just using locic and rationality.

I've always liked that too, I just never got around to using it like this in a statement. Thanks!
