Okay, I have to first say that this review will be mostly about John Denver and Depeche Mode, as they're the only ones worth mentioning here.



First, John Dever PWNS pretty much anything else. I've been trying to get ahold of Rocky Mountain High for a long time, and I found it in the "popular/rock" section of the library. Yeah, he's pretty pop, but I've never seen him in this section. He's pretty much always referred to as a country singer, but anyway.



This album is wonderful, as always. However, it is also a bit lackluster. It reminds me a lot of "Back Home Again", just a lot of nice, mostly-quiet songs, all lumped together. Nothing really exciting here. Of course, this is where John did start doing more artistic things, instead of just writing in the "country/folk" style, just making random songs. There is a theme here, musical and lyrical, which was heard on "Back Home Again" as well, and a little bit on "Windsong" (which is my favorite Denver album.



There's an absence of real country or bluegrass here, it's all inspired by the Colorado wilderness, which is very mellow and relaxing. I know from experience.



Now for Depeche Mode. This album is very different from the others I've heard, "Violator" and "Black Celebration" (I've also heard "Construction Time Again" but just once and I didn't like it).



It's much more like adult contemporary or something like that. It reminded me of Everything But the Girl. Not much in the way of synths or the goth sound. Of course, they're changing and finding new styles. But it was very boring still, I don't even remember anything except for the line "Dream on... dreaaaaam on." from the song "Dream On" during the chorus.



Last two: Serj and Darren. I doubt I'll ever listen to this stuff again. Serj was interesting to listen to 'cos I used to love SOAD, but this didn't affect me at all really.



I forced myself to listen to most of the first disc in Darren Haye's album. This is lousy dance pop, and his voice is completely overpowered by the techno-ish garbage. Bear might like this.
